BANGKOK, Thailand – The National Science Museum (NSM) in Pathum Thani province has launched an exhibition titled “Mosquitoes… The World’s Deadliest Creature,” offering participants the history and scientific study of mosquitoes in Thailand. The exhibition features a collection of 50,000 mosquito specimens donated by the U.S. Embassy in Thailand through the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS). The donation makes the NSM Natural History Museum home to the country’s largest collection of mosquito specimens.

Developed in partnership with AFRIMS and the Faculty of Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University, the exhibition explores the role of mosquitoes in spreading diseases such as dengue fever, malaria, and Zika virus. Visitors are provided with insights into mosquito behavior, the challenges posed by Thailand’s warm and humid climate, and the importance of mosquito research in preventing disease outbreaks.

The event represents the long-standing collaboration between Thailand and the United States in scientific and medical research. Representatives from AFRIMS and the U.S. Department of Agriculture also stressed the need for global cooperation, public education, and research in combating mosquito-borne diseases. The exhibition is expected to inspire interest in entomology and foster a more in-depth understanding of the efforts needed to address these global health challenges.

The exhibition runs from December 20, 2024, to February 2, 2025, at the NSM Natural History Museum. The facility is open Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on weekends and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the museum closed on Mondays.
