MUKDAHAN, 29 June 2015 (NNT) – Commander of Mukdahan’s Peace and Order Maintaining Command (POMC) presided over the “ASEAN Reforestation 2015” project held in Wan Yai District of the province as part of the Army’s policy to strengthen friendship between Thai and Lao citizens living along the border.
The project was participated by over three hundred people including local military officers, provincial authorities and citizens of Thailand and Laos. In line with the policy made by Army commander-in-chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr, Border Defence Commands have been conducting so-called “Strong Parallel Villages” project to develop integrity and security in Thai border villages that are situated in parallel with Lao border villages.
It was one of various Thai-Lao relations promoting activities like sport competitions, exchange visits and joint traditional festivals. The project will not only benefit reforestation efforts in ASEAN, but will also contribute to the growth of cross-border tourism ahead of the single-market ASEAN Community to be realized at the end of 2015.
