BANGKOK, 29 June 2015 (NNT) – Thailand is ready to implement the International Labour Office’s Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention as a national agenda, says the DLPW’s Director-General.

The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW)’s Director-General Peeraphat Pornsirilertkit revealed that the Ministry of Labour Gen Surasak Karnjanarat has announced that the Ministry of Labour will accept the International Labour Office (ILO)’s Convention No. 187 and implement the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health, as the nation is capable to implement this convention successfully.

The implementation of this convention will persuade the ILO to reconsider Thailand’s status, as a country where workplace safety conditions are enforced on a national level.

This proposal is now being forwarded by the Occupational Safety and Health Bureau to the Cabinet for approval. Notifying the ILO regarding Thailand’s national implementation will be the task of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Director-General believes it would not be long before Thailand officially accepts the 187th convention.
