CHONBURI, 30 June 2015 – The Mayor of Saensuk today revealed the long-term trash management plan for Bang Saen beach, confirming that water quality levels are normal.

The Mayor of Saensuk City Municipality Narongchai Kunpluem said regarding the trash that has been washed ashore along Bang Saen beach, that it had washed ashore from Bang Pakong and the Chao Phraya River. The rubbish at Bang Saen beach also consists of waste products from fishing activities.

He stated that rubbish regularly washes ashore during the monsoon months of June-September, while the amount of trash created by tourist activities accounts for approximately ten percent of the total amount of rubbish.

To cope with the situation, a private company has been hired to clean up Bang Saen beach and other important sites from 5am to 10am every day as an initial response. The municipality will also procure more equipment, including two garbage trucks, to facilitate cleaning procedures over the long term.

The increase in equipment will also help diminish the rubbish buildup in the area, as trash collecting activities are only allowed within a time limit, according to a schedule agreed to with the local people.

Saensuk City Municipality’s Mayor added that Bang Saen beach’s sands appears darker due to the fact that the beach is situated in a mudflat area. The seawater quality is currently at safe levels, allowing tourists to play and swim as usual.
