BANGKOK, Thailand – The Meteorological Department announced that from December 28–30, another wave of relatively strong cold air will cover upper Thailand, leading to a drop in temperature accompanied by strong winds. Meanwhile, in the south, rainfall will increase with heavy rain in some areas.

The department’s 24-hour weather forecast indicates that a moderate high-pressure system or cold air mass currently covers upper Thailand. This results in cool to cold weather with morning fog in the northern and northeastern regions. In the central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the eastern and upper southern regions, the weather is cool with some light morning fog. On mountain peaks, temperatures are cold to very cold, with occasional frost in certain areas.

Additionally, easterly and southeasterly winds are bringing moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, affecting the lower northeastern and eastern regions, causing light rainfall in isolated areas. The public in upper Thailand is advised to take care of their health due to changing weather conditions and exercise caution while traveling through foggy areas.

A moderate northeast monsoon currently affects the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region, bringing scattered thunderstorms to the south. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand are about 2 meters high, while the Andaman Sea has waves of around 1 meter. In areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 meters. Mariners in these regions should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in stormy areas.

Between December 28–30, 2024, another wave of relatively strong cold air is expected to cover upper Thailand and the South China Sea. This will cause temperatures to drop further in upper Thailand, with strong winds. The southern region will experience increased rainfall, with heavy downpours in some areas. Additionally, the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will see stronger winds and waves. Residents in the southern coastal areas should be wary of heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to flash floods and forest runoff. Mariners should exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy conditions.

Air Quality: Dust and haze accumulation in upper Thailand is expected to range from moderate to high levels, as weak winds and poor air circulation are prevailing in the area.
