BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has introduced the “Baan Pheu Khon Thai” or “Homes for Thai People” project to provide affordable housing along major rail lines. The initiative aims to utilize railway-adjacent land for residential developments, offering cost-effective housing with convenient access to urban centers via rail transit.

Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit announced the project details. It is spearheaded by SRT Asset Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). The pilot phase will focus on four key locations: the KM 11 area near Bang Sue Grand Station, Thonburi Station, Chiang Rak Noi Station, and Chiang Mai Station.

On January 17th, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will visit the KM 11 site to inspect the project’s readiness. She will also view a model home developed for the initiative. Public reservations for the housing units will open on January 20th, through the website “บ้านเพื่อคนไทย.th” in Thai. Applicants will undergo eligibility checks before entering a random selection process. Those selected can proceed with financing options through the Government Housing Bank.

The project will offer a variety of housing options, including standalone homes and condominiums. The KM 11 site will feature a 45-story condominium, providing modern living spaces near the rail network. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to expanding affordable housing, improving urban connectivity, and enhancing the quality of life for Thai citizens. (NNT)
