High PM2.5 levels expected this week—protect your health by staying indoors and monitoring air quality updates.”

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Pollution Control Department has issued a warning regarding rising PM2.5 dust levels expected to persist this week, particularly from January 22-25, 2025. The poor air quality, influenced by stagnant air, low ventilation, and cross-border haze, is anticipated to reach levels harmful to health in Bangkok and surrounding areas.

The Air Pollution Solution Center (APSC) reports that PM2.5 levels are expected to hit the red level, indicating serious health impacts, in Bangkok, nearby provinces, and areas in the northeast, lower north, and eastern regions. The cold air mass currently covering northern Thailand is contributing to still air and low ventilation rates. Additionally, open burning hotspots in Thailand and neighboring countries are worsening the situation.

Authorities urge strict control of dust emission sources and recommend public health precautions, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with pre-existing conditions. Residents are advised to minimize outdoor activities, wear protective masks, and consider work-from-home options. Those encountering burning activities are encouraged to report them to authorities.
