BANGKOK, Thailand – The PM 2.5 pollution levels have shown a downward trend but remain at an orange level in 43 areas, indicating air quality that may impact health, Jan 27. Citizens have welcomed free public transport measures, saving on travel expenses.
According to the Bangkok Air Quality Information Center, the average PM 2.5 level in the morning was 41 micrograms per cubic meter, showing improvement compared to Sunday. However, pollution remains at an orange level, which can affect health, with the highest levels recorded in Nong Chok district, followed by Bueng Kum.
Following the Ministry of Transport’s announcement of free rides on electric trains and BMTA buses for seven days to combat PM 2.5 pollution, commuters returning to work and school on Monday morning took advantage of these measures. At Victory Monument, traffic flow was smoother than usual, and many regular commuters opted for free BMTA buses over private services to save costs. However, no significant shift was observed in car users switching to public transportation. (TNA)
