BANGKOK, 19 July 2015 – The Director-General of the Department of Employment (DOE) has confirmed that all of the 459 Thai workers in Turkey are safe, and it is still unnecessary to issue an injunction to prevent Thai labour from seeking jobs there.

DOE Director-General Sumet Mahosot has asserted that all the Thai workers in Turkey are safe and in contact with Thai officials, especially the workers being employed through two recruiting agencies. He indicated that those workers have received good care from the employers and encountered no threats or harms from the local people.

He has said that the DOE has coordinated with the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara, Turkey to take care of the safety and welfare of the Thai workers while the advisory notification is yet to be announced to the workers.

He said job placements in Turkey may continue as usual, but the recruiting agencies and Thai workers must check for the safety conditions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to their travel.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Grerks Thai Enterprise Recruitment Company has said that he has ordered the foreman staying in the Thai workers’ camp in Turkey to instruct the workers not to leave the factory premises, and the company still does not cancel new job placements as there is neither protest nor violent incident around the working area.

He said however that the company will immediately cooperate with related agencies to carry out evacuation of workers should the situation escalate to a dangerous level.
