BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok authorities predict improved air quality next week with reduced pollution levels, though discussions on Work From Home measures remain ongoing.
According to data from the Bangkok Air Quality Information Center, the Meteorological Department, and the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), air quality in the city remains at an “orange” level, indicating potential health effects. As of 7:00 AM on February 2, PM 2.5 levels ranged between 40.1 and 71.1 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m³), showing a decreasing trend compared to the same time on February 1.
On Monday and Tuesday next week, air quality is expected to remain at the orange level. However, from Wednesday onward, atmospheric conditions are forecasted to improve, allowing better air circulation. Despite this, southerly winds may bring additional moisture, mixing with dust and water vapor, requiring close monitoring.
Regarding the possibility of extending Work From Home policies, officials stated that further discussions are needed. Satellite data from NASA revealed no significant heat sources (hotspots) within Bangkok, suggesting that most of the pollution originates from outside the city. Authorities plan to coordinate with relevant agencies to address combustion-related pollution sources. (TNA)
