PHUKET, Thailand – A French tourist, identified as Mr. Mohammed Jeafar, has been arrested after crashing his motorcycle into a Patong traffic police officer while allegedly driving under the influence. The incident occurred at 7:14 AM on February 4 in front of a Bangkok Bank branch on Phra Metta Road, Patong, Kathu District.
According to initial reports, Jeafar was riding his black Honda ADV160 in the wrong lane when he collided head-on with a white Yamaha NMAX motorcycle driven by Sergeant Major Third Class (SM3) Paradorn Sawangsangsai from Patong Police Station. Both individuals sustained injuries and were taken to Patong Hospital for treatment.
A preliminary alcohol test confirmed that Jeafar’s blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit. He now faces serious charges related to reckless driving and driving under the influence.
Authorities continue to investigate the case and remind both locals and tourists to follow traffic laws to ensure road safety in Phuket.
