BANGKOK, 14 July 2015, The Commerce Ministry and the private sector are to establish a working group, with the objective of addressing various hurdles to trade and boosting vehicle exports in the latter half of this year.

The Minister of Commerce, General Chatchai Sarikanya, made the announcement after a meeting with representatives of BMW (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric (Thailand) Co., Ltd. All three companies agreed that if the Thai baht remains in the range of 33.50 – 34 baht per U.S. Dollar, then Thailand would be able to achieve its export targets for both air conditioners and cars.

The Commerce Ministry asked all three companies to come up with suggestions and point out any related issues the government may have overlooked. A working group promoting exports will soon be established. The ministry this week would also ask other private companies to join the campaign.

Mitsubishi Electric aims to increase its air conditioner sales by 11 percent, BMW is to double its motorcycle export figure of last year, while Toyota Motors believes it will have exported 230,000 cars by the end of 2015.
