BANGKOK, 14 July 2015 – The Cabinet has agreed to adjust the amount of water coming from four major dams and has given an assurance that the country will have enough water for consumption until the August monsoon.
Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda said the amount of water released from the four major dams in the Chao Phraya River basin will gradually be reduced from 28 million cubic meters to 18 cubic meters which would make the water in the reserves last until the upcoming August monsoon season. Gen Anupong has called on the public to cooperate by being conservative with water consumption.
Agricultural and Cooperatives Minister Pittipong Phungboon Na Ayutthaya added that the government has readied assistance measures for farmers during the period of water conservation by focusing on alternative sources of income, and has implored the public to understand the government’s recent decision to tighten the belt on water distribution.
