PATTAYA, Thailand – The Meteorological Department reports that temperatures in the Northeast will drop by 2-3°C with strong winds, while other regions will continue to experience cool weather and morning fog. A further temperature drop is expected the following day.
According to the 24-hour weather forecast, a new wave of moderate to relatively strong high-pressure air mass from China has already spread over northern Vietnam. It is expected to cover the northeastern region of Thailand tonight (Feb 7), leading to a 2-3°C temperature drop accompanied by strong winds.
Other regions will remain cool with morning fog, with a temperature decrease expected the next day. Mountain peaks will experience cold to very cold conditions, while highland areas will be cool to cold. Residents in affected areas are advised to take care of their health due to the changing weather and exercise caution when traveling through foggy areas.
Meanwhile, moderate easterly winds are affecting the lower Gulf of Thailand and the southern region, resulting in scattered light rain. Waves in the lower Gulf are moderate, reaching heights of 1-2 meters. Mariners in this area are advised to navigate with caution.
From February 8–10, another wave of moderate to relatively strong high-pressure air mass from China will extend over upper Thailand and the South China Sea. This will cause a further temperature drop and strong winds. In the Northeast, temperatures will decrease by 3-5°C, while the North, Central, East, Upper South, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Region will see a drop of 2-4°C.
The strengthening northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea will bring thunderstorms to some areas, with stronger winds and waves in both the Gulf and the Andaman Sea. In the lower Gulf, waves will rise to 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in stormy areas.
Mariners in these regions should proceed with caution and avoid sailing in stormy conditions, while small boats in the Gulf of Thailand should remain ashore during this period.
