BANGKOK, Thailand – During Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s official visit to China, Thailand’s Government Public Relations Department (PRD) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Xinhua News Agency to strengthen media cooperation and information exchange. The agreement was one of 14 official deals signed between Thai and Chinese agencies.

Sudruthai Lertkasem, PRD Director-General, represented Thailand, while Fu Hua, President of Xinhua News Agency, signed on behalf of China.

The MOU focuses on enhancing access to reliable information through both traditional and digital media in Thai, English, and Chinese. It also includes initiatives to develop media personnel and expand communication platforms. To support this, the Government Public Relations Department has already launched several digital and broadcast channels, including the website “thailand.go.th,” which provides content in five languages—Thai, Chinese, English, German, and Japanese—and a streaming service via “PRDEE OTT”.

Jiraporn Sindhuprai, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, emphasized that this agreement reflects the strong diplomatic ties between Thailand and China, particularly in this 50th anniversary year of bilateral relations. She noted that the cooperation will also help counter misinformation and support efforts to combat fake news and cybercrime, including call center fraud operations—a growing concern for the Thai government.

Moving forward, both nations will work to improve the efficiency and speed of news exchange, ensuring accurate and beneficial information reaches the public. The agreement is also expected to promote tourism and cultural exchanges, reinforcing confidence in both economic and tourism sectors.

The Government Public Relations Department currently has agreements with five Chinese media organizations, including Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group, making China Thailand’s largest bilateral media partner. With this new collaboration, Thailand and China are strengthening their shared commitment to media development, transparency, and public engagement. (NNT)
