BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has called on the public to donate pre-owned books as part of the “Read and Read Again” campaign, seeking to provide educational resources to schools, libraries, and communities in need. Led by Thailand Knowledge Park (TK Park) in collaboration with the Mirror Foundation, the campaign supports government efforts to expand learning opportunities and reduce educational disparities. Donations will be accepted until April 18, 2025, with a target of collecting one million books.
The campaign has already gathered over 667,000 books, with more than 74,000 distributed to 202 schools and libraries across the country. The donated books include educational materials and storybooks, helping young readers develop literacy skills and broaden their access to knowledge. Organizers stress the importance of reading in childhood development, as it enhances cognitive skills and nurtures a more profound understanding of the world.
Speaking at Government House, the prime minister highlighted the role of storybooks in making education engaging and accessible. She noted that storytelling helps children relate to real-life experiences and encouraged parents and educators to use books as a learning tool. Households with unused books in good condition are urged to donate to support children in underserved areas.
The public can participate by donating books through designated collection points, ensuring that students and communities with limited resources gain better access to reading materials. As donations continue to grow, the campaign moves closer to its goal of delivering one million books, providing children across Thailand with valuable resources to support their education. (NNT)
