BANGKOK, Thailand – H.E. Mrs. Lalivan Karnchanachari, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended a reception on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

The event marks the 77th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s declaration of independence, a significant moment in the nation’s modern history and Sri Lankans worldwide. Thailand and Sri Lanka have enjoyed a strong relationship for over 800 years, founded on Buddhist ties and expanding into trade, investment, culture, and people-to-people connections. The two countries established diplomatic relations on 20 November 1955, marking the 70th anniversary this year during which both countries will hold a series of commemorative events. (MFA)
