PHANG NGA, 17 July 2015 – Tourists in the southern province of Phang Nga have opted for inland attractions, due to storms gripping the Andaman Sea.
Thai and foreign tourists have been traveling to waterfalls and other inshore attractions instead of island destinations, following the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department’s warning about stormy weather and flash floods.
Meanwhile, local officials and natural park personnel have stepped up safety measures for locals and tourists. Regular inspections have been scheduled for waterfront areas. If the wave climate becomes too dangerous, then officials will install safety warnings or issue bans on swimming.
The southwestern monsoon over the Andaman Sea is expected to bring scattered thundershowers across the southern region from now until July 20. Waves will be particularly strong during this period and flash floods are likely in some areas.
