Delivery rider arrested for fatally stabbing a security guard after a food delivery dispute at a university in Bangkok.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Police from Klongtan Police Station arrested 36-year-old delivery rider Akkaravit at his home in Huamak after he allegedly stabbed security guard Phiengjai to death inside a university in the Pattanakarn area the previous evening. Akkaravit was found asleep with his wife, and officers had to wake him up for the arrest. He appeared confused and disoriented, which the police believe may be due to him having taken a strong sleeping pill (Alprazolam). Authorities decided to wait for Akkaravit to regain normal consciousness before questioning him.

Upon investigation, police seized Akkaravit’s blue-and-white Honda Click motorcycle, a red helmet, clothing worn during the incident, and a knife used in the stabbing. Akkaravit reportedly told the police that he had delivered food according to the app’s order and encountered Phienjai, who was a security guard at the university. After delivering the food, Phienjai allegedly spoke disrespectfully and challenged Akkaravit to a fight, prompting him to lose his temper and attack. Akkaravit revealed that he always carried a knife under the seat of his motorcycle.

Akkaravit’s wife stated that her husband returned home around 10 PM and immediately went to bed without explaining anything. She only learned about the stabbing when the police arrived to arrest him. She also confirmed that her husband had no history of drug use and had never complained about food orders being canceled before. She expressed deep regret and apologized to the victim’s family.

According to Police Colonel Wachirakorn Wongboon, Akkaravit had been working as a rider for only 2-3 days. Before the incident, Akkaravit had delivered noodles to the university but could not locate the person who had ordered. He then asked Phienjai if the order had been made, but Phienjai denied it. After being asked to leave, a verbal altercation ensued, which escalated into physical violence. Akkaravit then retrieved the knife from his motorcycle and stabbed Phienjai, who later tried to seek help but died from the excessive bleeding.

Akkaravit fled the scene on his motorcycle and later stopped by a friend’s house to tell them about the incident. Upon returning home, he told his wife, who noticed his erratic behavior and gave him three sleeping pills to calm him down.

Police traced Akkaravit through security camera footage and apprehended him at his home. Upon searching the property, they found the clothing, motorcycle, and knife used in the crime but did not find any illegal drugs. Akkaravit’s criminal record shows a past conviction for possessing a firearm in 2019 and a 2021 arrest for driving under the influence of drugs. He is now facing charges of murder and illegal possession of a weapon.
