PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for February 23-25, predicting thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in some areas, followed by a temperature drop.

According to meteorologists, eastern and southeastern winds will carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, affecting the eastern and central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity. At the same time, westerly winds at higher altitudes will cover the northern and western central regions, leading to unstable weather conditions. Northern and central Thailand, including Bangkok, will experience hot daytime temperatures, while thunderstorms remain possible in some areas.

Authorities urge residents to take precautions against rapid weather changes and thunderstorms, while farmers should prepare for potential crop damage.

In the south, the northeastern monsoon and eastern winds will bring scattered thunderstorms, with waves reaching 2 meters in the lower Gulf of Thailand and exceeding 2 meters in stormy areas. Mariners are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in storm-prone zones.

Additionally, from February 23-25, a moderate-to-strong high-pressure system from China will extend into northeastern Thailand and the South China Sea. This will interact with southerly and southeasterly winds carrying moisture into upper Thailand, along with westerly wind waves from Myanmar moving across northern and upper northeastern Thailand, as well as Laos. These conditions will cause unstable weather, with thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and hail in some northern and northeastern areas, before temperatures start dropping.

In the south, heavy rainfall is expected in several areas, with very heavy rain in some locations. Meanwhile, the lower Gulf of Thailand will experience stronger winds and waves reaching 2-3 meters, and over 3 meters in stormy conditions.

Regarding air pollution, dust and haze levels in upper Thailand are expected to increase, as weakened winds and reduced rainfall in some areas contribute to higher PM2.5 accumulation. Residents are advised to monitor air quality and take necessary precautions. (TNA)
