CHONBURI, 19 July 2015 – The Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) is satisfied with the adjustments of the draft constitution’s articles, while the CDC is set to decide whether to extend its operating time frame or not on 21 July.

The mobile CDC meeting in Chonburi Province has concluded today’s revision of the draft constitution’s articles. The meeting’s minutes were compiled before members returned to Bangkok.

In this meeting, CDC members have decided to adjust several articles, as well as cutting about 20 articles from the draft constitution. The current draft constitution contains about 290 articles.

The provisions of 12 articles have also been adjusted in some parts, prior to additional adjustments expected in Bangkok. 16 suspended articles have also concluded matters regarding the qualifications of the House of Representative members and the Senate, impeachment protocols, and rights protection to members of the House of Representative and members of the Senate.

CDC Chairman Bowornsak Uwanno expressed his satisfaction towards the overall adjustments, adding that the changes retain the constitution’s 4 main pillars, while the National Reform Council’s (NRC) reception to the changes will be considered by the CDC later.

He insists that this draft constitution revision is the final draft, and that he will not join the next CDC should this draft be rejected by the NRC.

A CDC member Kanchanarat Leeviroj has said that this constitution has been drafted from all sides’ input, adding that she is hopeful that this constitution will help solve national problems and lead to peace.

The CDC has scheduled a meeting on 21 July 2015 to determine whether the CDC needs to extend their operating time-frame for an additional 30 days or not.
