Thepprasit Road U-Turn Debate: Progress or Poor Planning?

PATTAYA, Thailand – The ongoing roadwork and traffic management changes on Thepprasit Road have sparked heated debates among Pattaya residents. Many are criticizing the lack of proper planning and repeated modifications that have worsened traffic congestion and caused public inconvenience. In response to numerous complaints about U-turn restrictions, Pattaya officials have decided to test a temporary U-turn opening to ease public frustration.

However, local reactions remain divided. Some residents welcomed the change, stating, “Pattaya is keeping its promise… After listening to the public’s concerns about U-turn points on Thepprasit Road, a temporary U-turn will be opened to reduce public hardship.”

On the other hand, critics argue that poor planning and frequent changes have made the situation worse. One frustrated resident asked, “Was there any study on the impact before doing this? And whose money is being used to fix and remove these structures?”

Another commented, “They just dig, remove, and rebuild over and over again… Pattaya looks like a patchwork city with no clear vision.”

Traffic flow remains a major issue, with concerns about dangerous driving behavior caused by these changes. “Vehicles from both directions making U-turns will keep crashing into each other in the first lane. The solution? There should never have been a central divider in the first place.”

Others pointed out specific problem areas, such as “Please open another U-turn near Thepprasit Soi 17. Traffic is terrible every day from there to the Jomtien Beach intersection.”

Many residents also believe these frequent changes are a waste of taxpayer money. “Such a waste of the city’s budget… If the funds were spent properly from the start, without constant revisions, it would benefit both businesses and residents.”

While city officials attempt to address public complaints, the dissatisfaction surrounding Thepprasit Road’s redevelopment suggests that better planning and more public consultation are needed to prevent similar issues in the future.
