PATTAYA, Thailand – The Mabprachan Golf Society faced two contrasting challenges this week, with Tuesday’s round at The Emerald proving to be a tough test and Thursday’s visit to Bangpakong Riverside offering a welcome improvement in scoring.

On Tuesday, 25 February, three groups made their way to The Emerald, a course that has never been a favourite among some members due to its unpredictable nature. With tricky fairways and demanding greens, high scores were hard to come by. The course was in reasonable condition, though the fairways could have used better mowing. Fortunately, the weather was on the players’ side, with cloud cover keeping temperatures comfortable.

Scoring was a struggle for most, with only four players managing to break into the 30s. Steve Sturley was the most consistent performer of the day, navigating the challenges to claim victory with a steady 36 Stableford points. Bob Edwards followed as runner-up with 32 points. At the other end of the leaderboard, Mark Bromwich had a tough day and took home the wooden spoon. Meanwhile, the near pins were claimed by Bob Edwards and Steve Sturley.

Two days later, on Thursday, 27 February, the society teed off at Bangpakong Riverside, a well-maintained course known for its enjoyable layout and fair challenges. The improved course conditions translated into much better scoring, as players found their rhythm.

Dave Smith showed signs that his form is returning, putting together a consistent and confident round to claim victory with 38 Stableford points. Allan Cassin wasn’t far behind, finishing as runner-up with 36 points. Mike Malott found himself in possession of the wooden spoon, while the near pins were taken by Neale Savery, Dave Smith, Bob Edwards, and Mick Bryan.
