
SA KAEO, Thailand – The Prime Minister, Ms. Phatongtarn Shinawatra, visited the Ban Khlong Leuk Border Checkpoint in Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo Province, on February 28, to oversee measures aimed at improving border security and the prevention of illegal activities. She emphasized the importance of strengthening communication lines and intensifying the control of border activities, particularly in preventing individuals from illegally crossing into Cambodia.
During the visit, the Prime Minister was briefed by the Immigration Bureau about the procedures for screening individuals traveling between Thailand and Cambodia. She was informed about the strict process where travelers must pass through a series of checks, including biometric systems to track any offenders. She also received a report from the Customs Department, highlighting the significant seizures of illegal currency smuggling, with 38 cases in fiscal year 2024, totaling 58 million baht, and 8 cases already recorded in fiscal year 2025, amounting to 21 million baht.
The Prime Minister inquired about the progress of installing X-ray machines for better luggage screening and instructed related agencies to expedite the installation. She also checked on the ongoing efforts to cut off communication signals from the border area, which is expected to be completed by March. She showed interest in the potential impacts of dismantling the communication lines and questioned the effects on mobile phone signal quality.
Before leaving, the people of Sa Kaeo presented red roses to the Prime Minister as a gesture of support and encouragement.
