Suvarnabhumi Airport Immigration thwarts fake passport scheme, arrests two foreign nationals.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Immigration Bureau of Suvarnabhumi Airport intensified its screening of foreign nationals entering and leaving Thailand, aiming to prevent potential security risks.

At approximately 07:00 AM on March 8, immigration officers at the departure terminal apprehended two foreign nationals, Mr. El Asyly Ismail, 30, and Mr. El Wannasse Abdelmalek, 24, who were attempting to check in with suspicious Spanish passports. Upon further investigation, the passports showed signs of tampering, including irregular stamps and missing biometric entry data.

The investigation revealed that both individuals had used fraudulent Spanish passports provided by a Moroccan agent in exchange for 7 million Moroccan dirhams. They had traveled through Istanbul, Turkey, and Abu Dhabi, UAE, before arriving in Thailand on February 24. After passing through Suvarnabhumi Airport’s immigration checkpoint, they were intending to continue their journey to Spain for work.

The suspects explained that they used Thailand as a transit point due to its stricter immigration screening, which European authorities trust more than direct flights. They were arrested and are now facing further legal action.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Boonyalak emphasized the importance of thorough screening, especially for those traveling frequently with “Free Visas” or suspected ties to criminal organizations. Immigration authorities have been denying entry to approximately 400-500 individuals monthly based on security concerns, while still ensuring a smooth experience for legitimate tourists and investors.
