IPGC Golf from The Tara Court Golf Group
Sunday, July 12, Mannon Castle G.C. – Stableford
The Tara Court Golf group was on tour in Ireland earlier this month. Well not actually on tour, a group of people who regularly visit Thailand and play with The Tara Court while they are here had what has now become an annual reunion at Mannon Castle Golf Club near Carrickmacross in Co. Monaghan. Some of the players came from as far away as Donegal, Waterford and Dublin to join their friends on what is an absolutely beautiful, if little known, golf course.
This summer the weather in Ireland has not been very good but on this day we were lucky and had a very nice day with no rain. As I said, Mannon Castle is a beautiful course and it is also a very difficult layout with every hole presenting a different challenge, and this was reflected in the scores. We were also playing off the long blue tees which made it even more difficult.
Paddy Kingham.
We had three members of Mannon playing with us and two of them took the top spots; Paddy Kingham was the winner with thirty four points and Thomas Cunningham was second with thirty three. I will not name the other member as he didn’t feature even in the top six places. Gerry Hannon had travelled down from Donegal to play and as he had a long journey home he didn’t wait for the meal and presentation and he also took his score card home with him, but as it was a friendly competition and not serious he still came third with thirty two points.
Eugene Woods was fourth with thirty one, John Connolly came fifth with twenty eight and Ger Lodge, who had travelled all the way up from Waterford for the game, came sixth with twenty seven.
Joe McArdle and Paddy Kingham shared the ‘2’s pot with a birdie each.
