BANGKOK, 23 July 2015 – The Department of Special Investigation has signed an MOU with the Defense Technology Institute to develop a new smartphone defense application.

The DSI and the DTI have entered into a 5-year agreement to cooperate in the research and development of a map-based database, DSI Map Extend, that is hoped to better tackle crimes. The design of the smartphone application which is part of the database will be completed within a year’s time.

The DSI has elaborated that as crime patterns become increasingly complicated due to technological advancement, the department aims to develop a more efficient tool to adapt to the changes. The application will allow members of the public to report crimes and to help the state monitor suspicious activities.

The app will be ready for the public to download for use at no charge by the end of this year. The trial will first be run on the Android platform before being re-launched on iOS.
