Bangkok’s air quality reaches orange level, with PM2.5 levels impacting health in several areas. Stay safe, limit outdoor activities, and use protective masks as needed.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Air Quality Data Center of Bangkok reported that the air quality in the city is at an “orange” level, indicating it is starting to have an impact on public health on March 23. The PM2.5 levels measured between 39.0 to 78.1 µg/m³, with an average of 59.5 µg/m³, which is above the standard threshold. The levels are expected to increase further as the day progresses.

Two areas were classified under the “red” zone, which is considered hazardous to health:

Nong Kham district, near the police checkpoint on Ma Ja Roen Road on Phet Kasem 81, with a PM2.5 reading of 78.1 µg/m³.

Thawi Watthana district, at the entrance to the second Sanam Luang, with a reading of 75.6 µg/m³.  These areas are considered to pose serious health risks to the public.

In addition, 67 other areas have fallen into the “orange” zone, where air quality is starting to affect health (with PM2.5 levels above 37.5 µg/m³). The general public is advised to limit outdoor activities and wear PM2.5 protective masks when going outside.

Health Recommendations:

Red Zone: Avoid outdoor activities. If unavoidable, wear a protective mask and seek medical attention if unusual symptoms occur. People with pre-existing conditions should stay in safe areas with low pollution.

Orange Zone: Use protective masks and limit strenuous outdoor activities. Be alert to symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, or eye irritation. At-risk individuals should follow their doctor’s advice and seek medical help if symptoms worsen.

The air quality is expected to improve slightly from March 24-30, 2025, with better ventilation and cooler temperatures in the following days. The heat and hazy skies are expected to persist through the day.

The Air Quality Data Center encourages residents to stay updated on air quality levels through the AirBKK app and other online channels. People can report pollution sources via Traffy Fondue for further investigation.

Stay Safe: Always check the air quality before leaving home to ensure your health and safety!
