Krungthai ATM theft suspects nabbed

KHON KAEN, 2 August 2015 – Police have arrested three Krungthai Bank employees suspected of embezzling more than 19 million baht from a Khon Kaen branch last week.

The suspects are identified as Thawatchai Samranbamrung, Sompote Singsom and Surasak Prasertsank. KTB General Services filed a complaint with police after the three were absent on July 27-31 during which time 19.7 million baht in cash destined for 17 ATMs in the municipality also disappeared.

According to the Commander of Khon Kaen provincial police Pol Maj Gen Jitjaroon Srivanit, Mr. Sompote has confessed to stealing the money on July 29, before fleeing to Laos. He was apprehended on August 1. Mr. Tawatchai and Mr. Surasak are not involved in the ATM robbery.

Police have seized 1.4 million baht in cash, five gold necklaces and over 40 currency straps from Mr. Sompote. The accused is to perform a crime re-enactment today.
