Great support sees a record amount raised for the St. Camillus Foundation
For the 11th annual Camel Summer Charity Classic held on Saturday, July 9, the weather was fine, hot and dry. A record 206 golfers played at Emerald in support of this most worthy of causes, for the St. Camillus Foundation which runs the Camillian Social Center – a relief center for HIV/AIDs affected people, just out of Banchang, in Rayong.
This summer’s tournament raised a record total of 540,000 baht, for the Camillians. The Camel Summer and Winter Charity Classic tournaments, since inception, have now raised over 5 million baht for the St Camillus Foundation.
The tournament champions: Kermit’s team of Dave Stockman, Saranya, Bob Watson & Patsada with their trophies.
Golfers from Banchang, Pattaya and Bangkok teed off from 06:30am through 1.30pm. A special thanks to all our registration folks (Vanessa, Bob, Bill, Nida, Mark, Steven, Tong & the Camel ladies). Players received tournament shirts and caps, and banners for sponsors were located on each hole. The organizers recognize the great support received and extend our warm gratitude to the management, staff and caddies from Emerald for turning the course and facilities out so very well.
The format was Texas Scramble and the tournament had strategically placed Booming Bloody Mary’s, Magnificent Margarita’s and Sizzling Sausages around the course to keep golfers strength up and their concentration focused.
After the game and some welcome refreshments at the clubhouse, golfers and their families made their way, by 6:00pm, to The Camel Pub, Banchang’s largest and finest pub/ restaurant. There, The Camel had prepared a pig on the spit and a sumptuous buffet.
The runners-up were Erik’s Losers team of Erik Klaasse, Daniel Ryals, Guus Harting & Gordon Harrison.
Prize giving and presentations to the successful golfers started at 7pm. Hosting was done by MC, Rod Carmichael with able support from Steven & Vanessa. Many kind donations were made by some very generous folks and the organizers extend their thanks.
The tournament champions for the Camel Summer Classic 2011 are the Kermit’s team of Dave Stockman, Kh Saranya, Bob Watson & Kh Patsada, with a brilliant net score of 54.3. The champions were presented with individual crystal trophies and associated prizes.
The runners up were Erik’s Losers team of Erik Klaasse, Daniel Ryals, Guus Harting & Gordon Harrison with a net score of 55.5. They were also presented with crystal trophies and associated prizes. Congratulations to champions and runners up.
For the ten technical prizes this year, the winners were: Long Putt on hole 3; Martin Hoffie, Near Pin on hole 5; Keith Hamilton, Near Pin on hole 7; Bobby Brownfiel, Near Pin in two on hole 8; Mike English, Ladies Long Drive on hole 9; Kh Amporn, Near pin in two on hole 12; Hanafiah, M, Near Pin on hole 13; King Arthur, Long Putt on Hole 14; John Atkins, Near Pin on hole 15, Hanafiah, M and Mens Long Drive on Hole 18; Kh Sutep Y. Congratulations to the technical prize winners.
