Crown Prince reaches out to family of cyclist killed practicing for Bike for Mom

The family of a Chonburi cyclist struck and killed preparing for the Bike for Mom event has received a reef and compensation thanks to HRH Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn.

Thongchai Sudsri, 56, was hit by a car in Muang District while riding days before he intended to join the Aug. 16 Bike for Mom event, a ride sponsored by the Crown Prince to honor HM Queen Sirikit for her 83rd birthday.

The Chonburi office of the Ministry of Justice held a ceremony at Pattaya’s Zign Hotel Aug. 14 to award his wife, Anong Leaknok, 36, and their three sons 80,000 baht. That, along with a funeral wreath, were donated after the Crown Prince heard of the fatal accident.

Tawatchai Thaikiew, deputy permanent secretary for justice, said the funds were donated to help pay for Thongchai’s funeral.

The victim’s son, Nattapol Chansittikulchai, 21, said his dad practiced continuously for the Bike for Mom ride and he felt sad that his father never got the chance to participate. He added he was grateful the Crown Prince acknowledged Thongchai’s death and came to the aid of his family.
