Hat Yai tourism unaffected by Monday’s blast

SONGKHLA, 21 August 2015 -Tourists continue to flock to the tourist town of Hat Yai, Songkhla, amid tight security.

At least 30,000 foreign tourists, mainly those from Singapore and Malaysia, are expected to join the alms giving ceremony on Sunday in Hat Yai. The number of tourists has not dwindled following the Monday’s blast in Bangkok.

Security officers have been patrolling crowded areas and using a mobile phone signal jammer to prevent a third party from instigating violence. Passing vehicles and parked ones have been searched for prohibited items.

10,000 monks from 4 nations and the South of Thailand will join the alms giving ceremony to be held in the heart of Hat Yai on Sunday. No tourist cancellations have been reported and many hotels in the city remain fully booked.
