Monday, August 17, Treasure Hill – Stableford

Inspired by Aussie, Jason Day’s record breaking overnight win in the US PGA Championship, 22 bleary eyed stalwarts made their way to Treasure Hill GC.  Warm welcomes were extended to Cameron Beal and Alan Flynn.

Another perfect sultry day greeted us and with an easier than normal bus trip, we teed up off the yellow markers before scheduled time.

Once again, our compliments are extended to the management of Treasure Hill GC who oversee a fantastic course and have made it available until the end of August at the very good rate of 1,050 THB incl. g/f, caddie and cart.  Well done indeed!

(L to R) Bill Steinmann, Deefa the Dog & Jerry Dobbs.

Cries of anguish were heard as the sniggering, semi-aquatic reptile on the 16th jangled the nerves of Kevin Waycott and Patrick Poussier.  Whilst most struggled on this fine course, we had one outstanding performance.  I’m sure I heard Bill Steinman coming up the 18th fairway singing, ‘Ding dong, the witch is dead” as he signed off for a superb 41 points.  Bill romped to a 5 point victory in A Grade over Alan Flynn and John Davis.

In B Grade, a popular podium finisher was Niall Stuart who was pipped by Jeremy Dobbs and Khan Speechley.

Back at The Growling Swan, Russell paraded Deefa, who gratefully collected many donations and the players are thanked for their continued contributions to assist the needy children of Pattaya.

In our host, Peter Grey’s absence we celebrated Bill and Niall’s ‘day out’ and farewelled Jeremy Dobbs with great mirth. John Anderson was thanked for his continued contribution in checking the cards.

Thursday, August 20, Crystal Bay – Stableford

Eighteen confident golfers made the quick and easy run up Sukumvit Road today to Crystal Bay, which is improving with every visit and is now a real pleasure to play.

There was some good scoring as a count back was needed to separate first and second place, both on 39 points each (hence their smiling faces in the photo).

Welcome was handed to Ashley Taylor and farewells to Shane Young and Aaron Shorten, both heading back to Aust. Bon Voyage guys.

On the bus for our return trip a phone call came to one of our golfers from their caddie, “You no forget me.”  We were not yet out of the gates!

Note: The GS is a friendly golf outlet and caters for and encourages all golfers male and female to have a hit at any of our weekly outings.  We generally play Mondays and Thursdays at one of the many fine golf courses in and around Pattaya.  Please contact Peter Grey if you are interested on 0861 503086.

The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts.  Bus transport departs the GS on Wednesdays at 10 AM to play at Cocos on undercover synthetic greens and on Sundays at the same time for open grass bowling at The Retreat.  Please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454005 if you wish to partake.  The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
