BANGKOK, 1 September 2015 – The Ministry of Public Health is planning to set up a single public health information database to streamline services.

Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsattayathorn said the Consortium of Thai Medical School and the National Health Security Office have concluded that redundant health insurance records could be avoided with a single database.

Dr. Piyasakol said other public health organizations would be able to use the database to access the personal information of those covered by the schemes. A team of officials will be appointed to oversee the development of the database to assure transparency.

Current health care schemes, including the universal health care coverage, social security and Thai civil servant medical benefits, are managed by three different databases.
