Housing project told to put down trees, pick up trash

Nongprue officials encouraged public-housing residents to spruce up their village by planting trees and refrain from littering.

Deputy Mayor Anak Pattanangam presided over a Sept. 9 environmental-awareness day that saw sub-district officials join residents of the government housing project plant a variety of trees and shrubs.

Public health officials also talked about the need to keep the project clean by refraining from littering. They encouraged people to begin separating their trash and recycle.

Anek said the planting of cassia, pterocarpus, agusta, leucaena leucocephala, and neem trees would serve a number of purposes in the development, from making charcoal and handicrafts to supplying wood for construction.

The trees, he said, are fast-growing and improve the environment, as well as preventing erosion from flooding during rainy season.
