Monday, Sept. 21, Pattana – Stableford

All three courses are now running here and we were allocated the A and B nines today, with six groups out and the equal cut in two divisions being set at 9-18 and 19 plus in division 2.  The course was in good condition and the weather was very cool for the front nine but warmed up on the back.

Don Head returned the best score of the day, winning division 1 with 35 points while Chris Slota took second on 32 and one point further behind was Iain Usher in third.

Steve Godfrey (right) with Steve Harris (left) and Rod Howett.

There were two 33’s topping the standings in division 2 and Steve Godfrey beat Miss Nut 19/15 on a back-nine count back to take first place, she was not a happy lady.  Tom Novak came in third with 30 points to complete the podium.

Jerry Sweetnam and Chris voller (division 1) and Miss Nut and Chuck Taylor (division 2) claimed the four near pins on offer today.

There was just the one birdie ‘2’ recorded, by Miss Nut on B3 to scoop the rollover pot in division 2.

Wednesday, Sept. 23, Phoenix – Stableford

Another six groups out today, playing off the yellow tees at 5738 yards with an identical cut as of Monday but with a few higher scores returned.

Steve Godfrey (H/cap 20) scored 25 points on the Ocean nine and 21 on the Mountain course to win division 2 with a whopping 46 points, his highest ever score recorded with us.  Curtis Hessler trailed in second some 8 points back on 38 and Benny Hansen was third with 37.

Chris Slota topped division 1 with 38 points while Ian Speirs was second one point behind and in third place came Paul Hartley with an even par 36.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Colin Aspinall and Ian Speirs (3), and (Div 2) Steve Godfrey (2) and Paul Hartley (2).

Despite all the high scores today there was still only one ‘2’ recorded, it coming in division 2 from Paul Hartley on Ocean 2.

Friday, Sept. 25, Eastern Star – Stableford

Another slight improvement to the course here but still more rain or water needed to improve the approach to the fairways and surrounding areas.

After a few months in the doldrums Mikael Andersson bounced back today, winning division 1 with 36 points while Ian Speirs took second after beating Iain Usher 16/15 on a back-nine count back, both finishing with 33 points overall.

Don Head was the winner in division 2, again on a count back, beating Paul Hartley 14/12 on the back nine with both tied on 32 points.  Miss Nut came in third with 31.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Mikael Andersson, Bill Bertram, Neil Gamble and Iain Usher, and (Div 2) Steve Godfrey and Paul Hartley.

Mikael Andersson birdied the 3rd, Arthur Hancock the 13th and Iain Usher the 6th to split the ‘2’s pot in division 1 while Paul Hartley was the only winner in division 2 after sinking a 2-foot putt on the third green.
