Wednesday, Sept. 30, Eastern Star – Stableford

Monday’s game at Pattavia was a total washout, with five groups out the rain started as the first group reached the watering hole on the 6th green, it then got heavier and heavier and our rule is if it rains for one hour the competition is cancelled for the day.

After discussions with the management we were able to get a 9-hole raincheck and a buggy raincheck as well.

There was a major competition taking place at Eastern Star on Friday so we brought forward our usual visit there by two days, with another five groups out and the cut set at 8-17 and 18+ in the two divisions.

Bill Bertram recorded the best score to win division 1 with 36 points.  Wilf Latham came in second on 34 and Steve Godfrey was third with 33.

Tom Novak topped the division 2 standings with 32 points and Tony Thorne was three points behind Tom in second spot.  Bruce Gardner managed to find the edge in a 17/13 back nine count back victory over Louis Wong to take third after both came in with 28 points each.

We had a shared near pin today, the first time ever in Jomtien Golf history, with Wilf Latham and Chris Voller both being exactly 36 inches away on the 3rd hole, amazing!  Bill Bertram and Bob Mulholland and Steve Godfrey were the other near pin winners.

Wilf Latham birdied the 3rd to record the only ‘2’ of the day while Chris missed his putt from the same distance.

Friday, Oct. 2, The Emerald – Stableford

We were greeted by an almost empty course here today, with two small societies well ahead of us and we teed off 25 minutes ahead of schedule.  After the heavy rain over the past few days we were uncertain whether to implement the ‘pick, clean and place’ ruling but a quick inspection gave the impression that it wasn’t needed.

Don Head’s 33 points was the highest total of the day and won him division 2 ahead of Steve Harris on 32 in second.  Tom Novak took third after beating Miss Nut 16/15 on the back nine, both scoring 30 points in total.

Iain Walsh was the winner in the top flight with 32 points while Frank Kelly beat Jerry Sweetnam 14/12 on count back for second place after they both came in with 29 points apiece.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Arthur Hancock, Frank Kelly and Iain Walsh, and (Div 2) Bruce Gardner, Steve Harris and Miss Nut.

There were no ‘2’s today in either division.
