BANGKOK, 9 October 2015 – Tourism in southern provinces has not been affected by haze from Indonesia, judging from the increasing number of tourist arrivals during this period, Deputy Prime Minister Gen.Tanasak Patimapragorn has said.
Deputy Prime Minister Gen.Tanasak said after a meeting of the National Tourism Council on Friday that the meeting considered the haze situation in the South. It acknowledged that the haze, caused by forest fires in Indonesia, had improved in many areas and it had not affected tourism in the southern region, said the deputy premier.
The number of tourist arrivals this year has expanded by 30% so far compared to the same period last year.
Gen.Tanasak confirmed Thailand and Indonesia had been working together in tackling the problem of haze in the bilateral and ASEAN levels. They had agreed that farmers needed to be taught about how to properly get rid of agricultural waste in order to avoid polluting the air.
