Monday, Oct. 5, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford
Just a small field out today and we arrived at the course to find an almost totally deserted car park and clubhouse and we were able to tee off immediately.
One division in the stableford comp and Bill Kana won it with a solid 35 points. Taking second place was the recently returned Aussie Colin James with 33 points and William Chang placed third with 32.
Bill Kana and William Chang recorded the only near pins today and there were no ‘2’s.
Wednesday, Oct. 7, Plutaluang – Stableford
It was back to normality on Wednesday with 2 divisions out at Plutaluang. We had booked the North and West courses but when we arrived we were told to play East and South and there were a few moans as the condition of these two nines had been terrible three weeks previously, so we switched back to the N and W. Arriving at the first tee there were four 5-ball groups waiting to tee off in front of us so we knew why we had been moved in the first place.
34 points is the highest score in both divisions, with Dave Horne beating Chris Voller on a 20/18 back nine count back to take top spot in division 1 and Chris Reed winning the line honours in division 2 with the same score while three other players fought it out for second and all came in with 31 points; Bruce Gardner finally getting the nod over Steve Harris and Curtis Hessler.
Chris Voller birdied W3 to scoop the ‘2’s pot in division 1 and there was another rollover in division 2.
Near pins went to (Div 1) Montrey and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Bruce Gardner, Steve Harris and Colin James.
Friday, Oct. 9, Eastern Star – Stableford
Heavy rain overnight in Jomtien and as we arrived at Siam Cats on the Friday morning there were a few phone calls from the management at Eastern Star and the caddies telling us it would be a 50/50 decision whether we could play or not.
There were 32 names down and only one cancellation so the mini bus crowd wanted to take the chance and we headed off at 7.45, but as we approached the turn off on the 331 the skies darkened and the thunder and lightning started followed by the rain.
Arriving at Eastern Star we inspected the course on four or five holes and it was waterlogged so we were forced to cancel the day’s competition.
