UDON THANI – The northeastern dual track railway project will include the construction of a completely elevated section when passing the city area of Udon Thani, a SRT official says.
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT)’s deputy chief construction engineer Wannop Paisanpong explained that the latest project design of the northeastern line dual track railway project will include the construction of an elevated track which passes through the city of Udon Thani.
He has said that there will be elevated stations and facilities, expected to be operational in 2022.
The project will involve the construction of an additional 1 meter gauge track that will run parallel to the existing track, to allow simultaneous traffic from both directions to accommodate a faster and more reliable train service, as the trains will be running at maximum speeds of 120-160 kilometres per hour.
There are also construction plans for an underpass or an overpass, while the existing stations and facilities will also be renovated to improve service quality.
