BANGKOK – A cancer expert has encouraged adult women to perform breast self-exams and recommended that former breast cancer patients exercise to reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence.
Cancer specialist M.D.Uermkhae Sukprasert said women aged 20 years and older should examine the breasts by themselves in order to detect any changes. Women of 50 years of age were the group of women at risk of breast cancer and they should have a mammogram at the hospital at least 1-2 times a year to check for signs of the cancer, said the doctor.
M.D.Uermkhae added that studies had found that exercise helped prevent former breast cancer patients from developing the cancer again.
In Thailand, there are 35,000 breast cancer patients each year with the death rate of 15,000 people. These statistics are the highest ever.
