Sunday, Oct. 18, Silky Oak – Stableford

A Flight

1st Adam Barton (11) 41pts

2nd Peter Terry (17) 38pts

B Flight

1st Mogens Melander (30) 38pts

2nd Colin Davis (19) 37pts

‘2’s: Adam Barton, Colin Davis

Five groups out today and this shows the value of this course at weekends.  I had the price wrong last week when I said it was 400 baht cheaper than Green Valley for people who take carts – it’s actually 600 baht cheaper – or the same price for those who walk.

The course was a little wet in places but carts were allowed on fairways so no ‘lift clean and cheat’ was in place.

Barry Oats (left) and John Pierrel (right) with Colin Davis.

Mogens Melander likes this course and after a mixed front nine he scored 22 points on the back for 38pts and first place in B Flight.  This was one in front of the Colin ‘The Donkey’ Davis, also on his favourite pasture, who started steadily with 18pts out but then a good back nine was spoiled by a blob on the 14th to finish with 19pts and 37 overall.

Crafty Cockney Peter Terry finished on 38 points to grab the runner’s-up spot in A Flight but the best score of the day came in the last group from Adam Barton, his 41 points giving him a clear three point victory over the field.  Adam also took a share of the ‘2’s pot along with The Donkey.

Monday, Oct 19, Treasure Hill – Stableford

1st Colin Davis (19) 36pts

2nd Tip Briney (25) 33pts

3rd Ian Pickles (15) 31pts

We arrived at Treasure Hill early and were allowed to tee off with no one in front of us.  The course, as always, was in perfect condition but as tough as ever.

Ian (San Miguel), Pickles in his last game before returning home to Canada, was straight out of the gate with pars on the first three holes but then the wheels started to fall off and he had to be content with his 31 points and third place.

Tip Briney used his double shot holes wisely to finish with six 3-pointers in his 33 points for second place, meanwhile The Donkey had the worst start of all with only 6pts from the his opening 5 holes, he but then found form with a further 30 on the remaining holes and took top spot on 36.  He also missed scoring an ace by a whisker on the 13th, his tee shot stopping an inch short of the cup.

Wednesday, Oct. 21, Bangpra – Stableford

1st Eddie Bielby (17) 30pts

2nd Colin Davis (19) 28pts

3rd Paul West (14) 25pts

With a few cancellations only 3 players showed up for the trip to the normally popular monkey course at Bangpra so we decided to play the 6 pts game; Eddie Bielby and the Donkey shared the front nine with 20 points each while Paul West won the back with 19 and Eddie pipped the Donkey by a point to take the overall for the princely sum of 50 baht.

Friday, Oct. 23, Eastern Star – Stableford

A Flight

1st John Pierrel (14) 35pts

2nd Peter Terry (18) 33pts

B Flight

1st Barry Oats (21) 37pts

2nd Colin Davis (19) 34pts

We had 16 players out today after 3 late cancellations.  The weather was fine and the course looked very green after the recent rains.  Because of this we decided to play ‘lift clean and cheat’ even though carts were allowed to go on the fairways,  This was vindicated by the amount of mud picked up by the ball.  We played off the white tees at just under 6,600 yards, with the silver and reds set at 5,560 yards.

In the first group, John Pierrel enjoyed an even front nine but then showed his class with 20 points on the inward half for an A Flight winning score of 35.  Londoner Peter Terry returned 33 points to follow John up the podium steps in second place.

Barry Oats ignored being repeatedly showered with sand from his playing partner Ed Wyckoff’s bunker shots and posted a fine 37 points to top the B Flight standings.  The Donkey, who along with his partner Jim Bell halved their private match with Barry and Ed, threw in a 34-point card of his own to take second place in the individual standings.
