SONGKHLA – Songkhla office of land transport, security officials and related agencies have convened a brainstorming session, to consider measures to deal with foreign vehicles.
The public and private sectors met on Friday to work out ways to prevent illegal use of foreign vehicles in Songkhla Province, which handles a large number of passenger vehicles and trucks from a neighboring country each day.
The discussion was held in response to earlier visits of the Commerce Minister and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, who voiced their concern about obstacles to trade between Thailand and Malaysia and the development of special economic zones.
At the meeting, participants agreed that existing laws must be strictly enforced to regulate the activities of foreign vehicles coming into the country. Aside from the legal enforcement, a checkpoint will be set up at Khlong Ngae railway station in November to inspect vehicles bearing foreign registration plates.
