Travellers Rest Golf Group

In an ever changing world it seems some things never change.  In the world of Pattaya golf, Mike Rushant continues every week to win golf competitions and Derek Thorogood continues to come second.

Derek tells me that one day he hopes those names will be reversed so I shall do it for him.  In the world of Pattaya golf Derek Thorogood continues to come second and Mike Rushant continues every week to win golf competitions.  OK now Derek?

Monday, Nov. 9, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

The TRGG started off the golfing week on Monday with a short trip over to Phoenix (Mountain and Ocean courses).  A sizeable turnout meant two divisions/flights were necessary and it would appear that Phoenix was playing tough as only one golfer beat his handicap.  That man was Mike Sanders who amassed 37 points which proved good enough to win Division 1.  My old adversary, Roger Wilkinson, held it all together to take second place and Gavin Hunt slotted into third.

Mike Sanders, Lawrence Lee & Paul Stanton.

In Division 2 the winner obviously has a literary bent, with a name like Lawrence Lee; he just downed a glass of cider and walked out one midsummer morning to take first place.  For those not of a literary bent author Laurie Lee wrote “Cider with Rosie” and “As I walked out one Midsummer Morning.”

Perhaps that was too high brow for a golf report, my apologies.  Anyway, following Lawrence home was Mike O’Neill in second place with Alan Morgan taking third spot.

Div.1 (0-13)

1st Mike Sanders (6) 37pts

2nd Roger Wilkinson (13) 35pts

3rd Gavin Hunt (10) 32pts

Div.2 (14+)

1st Lawrence Lee (21) 33pts

2nd Mike O’Neill (22) 32pts

3rd Alan Morgan (31) 30pts

Tuesday, Nov. 10, Burapha – Stableford

On Tuesday it was back to Burapha (A and B courses) and just for once 40+ points was not the order of the day as it has been for months now.  Still, 38 points is not a bad return and on the day two of our contestants shot that number and it required a count back to decide the winner.

If I tell you that Derek Thorogood was one of those contestants I don’t need to tell you it was the other guy who won.  Dave Palmer was that guy and he indeed was the winner, with Derek again taking the runners up place.

I now think it is time for Derek to visit the local witch doctor to have this curse removed.

Kam Khan followed Derek home in third place.

1st Dave Palmer (8) 38pts

2nd Derek Thorogood (14) 38pts

3rd Kam Khan (12) 35pts

Thursday, Nov. 12, Green Valley – Stableford

The TRGG headed off to Green Valley on Thursday and it was a case of déjà vu if you are French or same, same if you are Thai, with Monday’s results.  Mike Sanders again did the business in Division 1 and Lawrence Lee again took Division 2.

In Division 1, Mike again shot his handicap and took top spot with Paul Stanton just a point behind in second.  Paul Hubbard took third place on the podium.

Lawrence Lee was the winner in Division 2, with Mike O’Neill in second and Frank Hughes in third.

Div.1 (0-14)

1st Mike Sanders (6) 36pts

2nd Paul Stanton (14) 35pts

3rd Paul Hubbard (9) 33pts

Div. 2 (15+)

1st Lawrence Lee (21) 36pts

2nd Mike O’Neill (22) 34pts

3rd Frank Hughes (19) 33pts

Friday, Nov. 13, Eastern Star – Stableford

On Friday at tricky Eastern Star the cream rose to the top as it often does on tricky golf courses.  Mike Rushant took it all in his stride and showed with a bit of course management even tricky courses can be tamed.  His exemplary 36 points was made to look even better when Derek Thorogood took his usual second place with just 28.  Gary Bennett was third with just 25.

1st Mike Rushant (9) 36pts

2nd Derek Thorogood (15) 28pts

3rd Gary Bennett (18) 25pts

Saturday, Nov. 14, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

The week’s golf drew to a close at Mountain Shadow and a good turnout struggled to produce some good scores with three notable exceptions.

Paul Stanton had a red letter day and holed everything on his way to an amazing 41 points.  Mike Rushant just had to get in on the act again by finishing second with 38 and Neil Wilkinson, another winner of late, finished in third place with 37.

1st Paul Stanton (14) 41pts

2nd Mike Rushant (9) 38pts

3rd Neil Wilkinson (12) 37pts

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Derek Thorogood on 080 673 3118 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
