CHIANG MAI – US Ambassador to Thailand Glyn Townsend Davies has paid a courtesy call on Chiang Mai Governor Pawin Chamniprasart.

During the meeting, the Governor updated the US Ambassador on economic development projects of Chiang Mai, including the enlargement of Chiang Mai International Airport, and a monorail development.

Mr. Pawin said Chiang Mai had seen a pronounced transition from an agriculture-based economy into a tourism-based one over the past decade, adding that software and organic food were promising industries of the province.

The US Ambassador voiced his concern about environmental risks during this period, particularly haze and wildfires, saying that the tourism might be affected. The Governor disclosed that related organizations were working out solutions to the problems.

As the US Ambassador expressed admiration for the beautiful nature and tradition and academic excellence of the province, the Chiang Mai Governor extended invitations to American expatriats in Thailand and visitors to come to the province.
