PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society

Wednesday, Nov. 18, Wangjuntr (Jungle Course) – Stableford

We had golfers join us from Colin’s Golf Bar for the competition on this day which meant we had a very healthy total of 29 players ready to tackle the Jungle Course at Wangjuntr.

We left our bars at 8.30am and it was a trip of 90 minutes, mainly due to the extensive road works on 331.  After the check-in and long drive to the first tee, our first group got away 30 minutes later than our scheduled 10.30am time.

Roger Rees & Bill BcGarvie.

It was very hot so we loaded up with water and I must say that this being my first time at this particular layout I was “blown away” by the spectacular views on many of the holes.  As for the degree of difficulty, it was very hard for first timers with lots of “blind” shots and many of the greens were massive compared to what we are used to, but regardless of the low points scoring most enjoyed the experience.

We had 2 flights with A Flight for handicaps 0 to 14 and B Flight for players with handicaps of 15 & over and there were 4 places in each flight.  We also had nearest the pins on all four par 3’s and longest first putts on three holes with Colin Davis chipping to help with the prizes.

A Flight was won by Roger Rees with 34 points while Christian “Psycho” Boysen finished second with 32.  With 2 golfers on 30 points so a count back was required to determine third & fourth spots and that resulted in Thomas Nyborg (16 point back nine) taking third from Chris Martin (12 point back nine) in fourth place.

Brian Gabe took out the B Flight with 34 points and Barry Elphick was second with 31.  Another count back was required with two players on 29 points and that saw TorbenLindgaard (15 point back nine) end up in third place with John Knight (13 point back nine) finishing fourth.

A Flight (0-14)

1st Roger Rees (13) 34pts

2nd Christian Boysen (10) 32pts

Friday 20th November, 2015 – Silky Oak–Stableford

There were four groups signed up for this particular game at Silky Oak and your writer had to sit this one out due to a leg injury so the report will be brief.

Teeing off a little earlier than scheduled the course was reported to be in fine condition and the weather was excellent.  Looking at the scores it seemed that most enjoyed the round which was finished in a little over four hours.

Having been with us for four weeks and playing some great golf, Bill McGarvie (20 point back nine) celebrated his last game this trip by scoring 39 points and won the day on count back from 2 others.  In second spot was SvendHommel (18 point back nine & 13 points on the last six holes) with Aussie Terry Dreier (18 point back nine & 12 points on the last 6 holes) finishing third.  Richard (Banjo) Bannister took fourth place with 38 points.

1st Bill McGarvie (8) 39pts

2nd SvendHommel (13) 39pts

3rd Terry Dreier (10) 39pts

4th Richard Bannister (13) 38pts
