BANGKOK – The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization) (GISTDA) has examined an oil slick west of Pai Island off Tambon Naklua, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. The information was provided by the COSMO-SkyMed on November 23, 2015 at 6.02 p.m. The oil slick covers an area of about 2.99 square kilometers floating on the sea surface, located about 16 kilometers off the coast of Pai Island.
According to an analysis on the movement of the oil slick with the stream information from the coastal radar system from November 23, 2015 (6 p.m.) – November 24, 2015 (8 a.m.), the oil slick moved four kilometers towards the South and back four kilometers towards the North which was the same location with a speed of 0.36 kilometer per hour (8.64 kilometers per day). GISTDA examined the movement of the oil slick in the past two days (November 21 to November 23, 2015) to detect the area from where the oil slick should have originated. The oil slick may have come from the northeast, about 11 kilometers away.
