PSC Golf from the Tropical Golf Group
Tuesday, Nov. 4, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
We were packed and only an overnight withdrawal of a few of our players through ill health allowed us just enough golfers to have a good day out. The fewer players there are, the quicker we finish and the sooner I can have a beer. But the players still turn up – it must be Dick’s charm.
The course at Mountain Shadow was in pretty good condition but the weather was hot and this layout is tough to score well on, but on the day many players performed admirably.

Round over and back at BJ’s, the results were soon declared. In the A Flight, 0 to 18, the winner was Tony Scambler with 38 points ahead of Bob Watson in close pursuit in second on 37. John Davis took third place with 34 points and John Hackett was fourth with 33.
In the B Flight, the winner was Barry Elphick with 37 points, three ahead of Brian Gabe in second, with Graham Buckingham taking third with 31 points and Daryl Evans fourth with 30 on count back over Jim Ferris.
So to the biggie and the winner of the MBMG Golfer of The Month award was Barry Elphick, well played Barry!
Near Pins: Brian Parish, Daryl Evans, John Anderson, Bob Watson.
Long Putts: Don Carmody, Mashi Kaneta
Friday, Nov. 29, Crystal Bay – Medal
The last Friday of the month and there was a lot going on: Thanksgiving, Loy Krathong, fireworks, busy season, and more. However, all that pales in comparison to the battle for the Tropical golfers’ Monthly Mug, which all sophisticated players know is more prestigious than the FedEx Cup. A full crowd of 26 golfers gathered at BJ’s before heading out to Crystal Bay.

Under sunny skies and a steady breeze we were assigned the C & A courses (in that order) and despite a full course we were able to tee off almost on time. Crystal Bay remains a great value; it’s a fair but not too tough layout with enough tricky holes to keep you on guard. Despite the season, the course could use a little more water, but is in overall good condition. Stroke play requires a bit more on course strategy and the results are unpredictable. So who figured it out this month?
When all scores were in one card stood head and putter above the rest. Tom Herrington (H/cap 16) shot a numbing gross 81 net 65 to win the Mug. While accepting the prize Tom graciously said, “What good is an empty mug? Fill it up and bring it back”. Next up was Maurice Roberts (13) with a fine net 68 and then there were a couple of count backs, with Jim Ferris (21) edging Andre Van Dyk (14) with net 69 for third, and John Davis taking fifth spot over Takeshi Hakozaki (15), both with net 70.
Near Pins: Bob Watson (2), John Davis (2).
Long Putts: Alan Sullivan, Paul Sharples.
