Monday, Nov. 23, Burapha A & B – Stableford

Div 1 (0-17)

1st Angus Neilson (10) 37pts

2nd Jim Black (15) 37pts

3rd Andy Butterworth (12) 34pts

Div 2 (18 up)

1st Dennis Pelly (18) 43pts

2nd Bob Lindborg (28) 38pts

3rd Pete Stonebridge (24) 37pts

We toughened things up a bit this week and let everyone play off the blue tees.  We didn’t hear too many complaints and I think the conditions suited the extra length a bit better, with the ball getting extra roll now that the rain has receded a bit.

(L to R) John Stafford, Wayne Cotterell, Yurte Murakami, Yasumasa Arakawa, Tom Byrne and Eddy Beilby.

In the second division, Pete Stonebridge continued his good form with 37 points to beat Wally Brown on count back for third spot.  Bob Lindborg scored a brilliant 38 points to take second and Dennis Pelly shot the lights out (so to speak) with a fantastic 43 – and that from the blue tees!

In the premier flight, Andy Butts came in third with a 34 points, and pals Jim Black and Angus Neilson fought it out for the top honours with 37 points each; on count back Angus just came out on top.

There were three ‘2’s today, from Thierry Petrement (A6), Ian Heddle (B8) and John O’Keefe (B8).

Wednesday, Nov. 25, Khao Kheow – Stableford

1st Peter Nixon (11) 32pts

2nd Stephen Mann (12) 32pts

3rd Geoff Stimpson (08) 32pts

4th Andy Makara (28) 32pts

A couple of weeks ago when we went back to Khao Keow, there were some marked improvements from the last time we played back in July and after which we decided to dump the course due to poor form.  Returning this week, reviews could not have been better and everyone thought the greens were back to Khao Keow standards.  The course also looked absolutely amazing, and everyone suggested that it should be a keeper for our alternate Wednesdays.

Playing off the white tees on the difficult B and C courses, with a stiff wind requiring 2 extra clubs into the wind, the scoring did not reflect the good condition of the course, and in general, everyone seemed to have struggled to such an extent that not a single player managed better than 32 points.

Tied with 32 points, were 4 players, Peter Nixon, Stevie Mann, Geoff Stimpson and Andy Makara, and the count back dictated that they all finished in that order.

We had two 2’s today, with Peter Nixon and Geoff Stimpson both recording theirs on Hole 17 (C8).

Friday, Nov. 27, Green Valley – Stableford

Div 1 [0-14]:

1st Wayne Cotterell (12) 39pts

2nd Mathias Hermann (09) 38pts

3rd Yasumasa Arakawa (07) 37pts

4th David Day (14) 36pts

Div 2 [15 up]:

1st Eddy Beilby (19) 39pts

2nd Tom Byrne (16) 37pts

3rd Andy Makara (26) 36pts

4th Yurte Murakami (16) 33pts

We had a good turnout today with 9 groups starting on a near perfect day, weather wise, at least.  After a bit of a flurry with last minute changes, we got off to an early start and for once, everyone that I had spoken to, commented on how good pace of play was today.  The greens were near perfect by Green Valley standards, running at a good pace, and it is good to see this course getting back in shape.

With 2 divisions and 4 positions paying, Yurte Murakami, playing off her 16 handicap scored 33 points to finish fourth in division 2.  Andy Makara continued his good form to finish third with 36 and one point better was Tom Byrne in second.  Yet again, Eddie ‘the bandit’ Beilby came in first place with an excellent 39 points.  Well done Eddie and the rest!

In first division some equally good scores were on offer, with David Day recording 36 points for fourth spot, Yasumasa Arakawa in third with 37, Mathias Hermann, who continues to impress with his great looking swing getting 38 points for second and prime position going to Wayne Cotterell, who scored a superb 39 points from his 12 handicap.

Surprisingly for such a large field and with the greens in great nick we “only” saw four ‘2’s recorded: Yasu, Wayne and Stevie Mann got one each on the shortened Hole 12, and Tom Byrne bagged his on Hole 8.
