Sunday, Dec. 6, Eastern Star – Stableford

Today we had a change of venue for our usual Sunday game, all the courses at Green Valley were closed for the weekend for a big tournament so we had to move down the road a bit to play in Eastern Star.  Actually we got a very good Green Fee rate of THB 800 for the King’s birthday so for those who walked it was only THB 1,150 in total and for those using a cart it was THB 1,550 as they let us share the carts, exceptional value for a Sunday.

The course was in excellent condition, the best I have seen it in years with very good fairways and greens.  When it is in this condition it is a pleasure to play here.  It is a long difficult course which was reflected in the scores but it is a very good challenge and makes you concentrate on every shot.

Nick Caulfield.Nick Caulfield.

We had only one golfer who managed to play to his handicap, that was Mark Lang playing off six and he won the A Flight with thirty six points.  In second place was Declan Kelly with thirty two and Declan beat Nick Caulfield into third on the count back with John Beshoff taking fourth with thirty points.

In B Flight Ged Foy, despite losing so many shots off his handicap in the past few weeks, still managed to win with thirty five points.  In second was Dympna Burke who is playing very steady golf this year with thirty three, third was Brian Agus with thirty two and again Joe Peters featured coming fourth with thirty one.

A Flight

1st Mark Lang (6) 36pts

2nd Declan Kelly (12) 32pts

3rd Nick Caulfield (5) 32pts

4th John Beshoff (16) 30pts

1st Ged Foy (24) 35pts

2nd Dympna Burke (28) 33pts

Tuesday, Dec. 8, Crystal Bay – Stableford

Tuesday we took a trip up to Crystal Bay which is a course we don’t play very often but we found it to be in excellent condition, vastly improved from what it was before and like it’s sister course Mountain Shadow, when it is in this condition it is excellent value for money.

We had one great score today, Garry Barling shot a four over par gross to amass forty one points and won by a clear five points.  Well done Garry, excellent golf.  We then had three players on 36 points with John Chambers winning the count back to come second and leave Ted Morris in third and Frank McGowan in fourth.  Mick Murphy came fifth after he beat John Fenwick on another count back.

1st Garry Barling (9) 41pts

2nd John Chambers (9) 36pts

3rd Ted Morris (13) 36pts

4th Frank McGowan (18) 36pts

5th Mick Murphy (18) 35pts

6th John Fenwick (20) 35pts

2’s: Garry Barling (2).

Thursday, Dec. 10, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

We were back on what is probably our favorite course today, Mountain Shadow.  Although this was an official holiday the Green Fee was only slightly higher and at one THB 1000 it was still good value.

Like all the courses this year there weren’t too many around and we got around quickly.  We had a reasonably large group out and had two flights but everyone decided to play off the blue tees.

Again today we had only one golfer who played to his handicap, this being Nick Caulfield who was also probably the lowest handicapper in the field.  Nick won the A Flight with thirty six points and Joe McArdle, who has been out of form for the past few weeks, made a slight comeback today to take second place with thirty five.  We then had two players on thirty four with Declan Kelly pipping Garry Barling on the count back to come third and keep Garry out of the prizes.

In the B Flight Keith Smith was the winner with thirty five points and Dympna Burke again featured by taking second with thirty three.  John Kelly was in third place with thirty two.

A Flight

1st Nick Caulfield (5) 36pts

2nd Joe McArdle (13) 35pts

3rd Declan Kwlly (12) 34pts

B Flight

1st Keith Smith (18) 35pts

2nd Dympna Burke (28) 33pts

3rd John Kelly (25) 32pts

2’s: John Chambers (2), Russell Gilroy.
